Foundation gets $20,000

Bon Secours Health System granted us a gift of $20,000 to the Sarah’s Place Foundation. Interest from this foundation will be used to recruit and salary the future lleadership of Sarah’s Place.

Spring 2008
Appalachian Job Skills Project

We are planning a major initiative: The Appalachian Entrepreneurial and Job Skills Project. The focus will be on generating new jobs by preparing clients for jobs in explosive growth markets sucha as Information Technology, and entry level jobs in the medical profession. With help from our technical college system, we will nurture entrepreneurs and help start cottage industries in the county.

Our Latest Nurse Aide Class

The Nurse Aide program continues to be a very successful part of Sarah’s Place Programs. Through the generosity of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation, we have received two grants to give partial scholarships to qualified students.

I started a little internet business 9 years ago, using my garage, basement, dining room table, living room, you name it, if it was a flat surface I used it! That was then, and now I am spreading my wings in 6,000 sq ft of an old 1908 antique hardware store where the tin roof leaks and the original floors are uneven and squeak and the occasional mouse or cat wonders in to play or surprise us and have us all screaming.

With brain storming discussions between us we have fantastic ideas to help the people of Elliott County. What if it was possible to have the Elliott County people make quilts to sell in my shop? It’s a win-win situation.

Did I mention I had a chocolate factory? It's at ChocolateCoveredCherries.com on the Internet. I will need extra hands during my chocolate season in the fall. And there again Sarah’s Place can supply me with hands to make my chocolates to sell thru out my season. What a win-win-win situation.
