He was just eight weeks old when we met him. Both of his parents work, and they needed a reliable, safe, nurturing place for Harrison to stay during the day.
“Being a new parent, the first day I left him and went back to work was very hard”, said his mother when interviewed for this story. “It became easier as I saw how much he was learning and the good preschool and the socialization skills he is developing now.”
Today, at three and a half years old, he is a “big boy” and is part of our toddler program. His favorite hero is Spider Man. He loves finding bugs. (Harrison can spot a critter a mile away!) As with many toddlers, Harrison is still working through his frustration of having to share toys. His mother says Harrison “loves ‘going to school’ as he calls it, and any day he can be on the playground. The Fun Days held at the CDC are the highlight of his experiences.”

“In December of 2013, I had to make a change. Unemployed and looking for work, it seemed everything I tried came to a dead end street. I sent in countless applications…I wondered if maybe I was doing something wrong. Maybe not trying hard enough? I was not only losing ground quickly, but also hope.”
Kim is a single mother of two boys. She got food stamps, but no child support. She worked a series of minimum wage jobs, but could not afford baby sitters for her youngest son. When I interviewed her, she had been out of work for six months. Because of a generous donor, we were able to get her a scholarship, sets of scrubs, good shoes, and other things to help her in the class.
Kim completed our Certified Nurse Aide program in February, 2015.
“This is a stepping stone for me and hopefully I will advance and further my education. My goal is to be an RN. Thanks to a very kind donor, I have a new look on life and a lot of hope for my future.”
A full scholarship for a Nurse Aide Student is $650. That’s a good deal for a new life full of hope and promise. Think about it. Donate now.
